Pandora's keeping Schtum I don't know what she's trying to say,
but she slipped a key into my fist, then she ran away.
I know she has a little toy chest, though she always keeps it hid,
and it has a tiny silver lock and a clasp upon the lid.
Now her breath is in my mouth, and her eyes are in my head,
and all the words that I can hear are all the things she never said.
those eyes inspire a web of lies and draw me to deceit,
but there never were a pair of eyes more beautiful or sweet.
I keep searching for a genie but I keep finding mr Hyde,
Every bottle that I open has a devil trapped inside.
Obscurity and innocence collide in space and time,
so what started as a game of words soon became a crime.
Each word that passed between us weighed like gold on silken thread, and each look contained a thousand words that never should be said.
There's only one way out of here, we all leave in the same way.
No-one knows what happens next, no matter what they say.
I stumble through the open door and I fall on the gravestones,
while the spectres dance around me, but at least I'm not alone.
I keep searching for a genie but I keep finding mr Hyde,
Every bottle that I open has a devil trapped inside.
Outisde the chapel walls I stamp y cold feet on the ground,
where alabaster thorns have fallen from a broken crown,
yeah they painted Jesus pink again to make him look more pure,
but they only filled the bulletholes with sand mixed with manure
I keep searching for a genie but I keep finding mr Hyde,
Every bottle that I open has a devil trapped inside.

Sit Tight
03:32
|
|||
C7 B7
Sit tight my love
Em B7 Em
I won't bite
C7 B7 Em
It's a cold night out there
C7 B7
Have a drink my dear
Em B7 Em
for you've nothing to fear
C7 B7 Em
it will all come clear if you dare
F#7 B7
taste the dark surprise
Em B7 Em
lurking in these eyes
F#7 B7 Em
I'm afraid it's just the way that I appear
G A
If you'd like to know
Em B7 Em
what goes on below
C F#7 B7
then you'll find what you've been looking for right here
Take a step this way
down this alley-way
by the light of day
you'll be gone
and I do believe
just the tramps and thieves
will be there to grieve
when you're gone
for they know full well
you'll go straight to hell
and the casket that you travel in is rotten
by the harbour lights
just around midnight
you'll go overboard and straight down to the bottom
break
behind the inn
where the soldiers sin
is a street lit by one dirty little light
if you go there late you can meet your fate
in the shadows in the middle of the night
and the vampires know
in the streets red glow
you can see the neck an awful lot more clearly
so I’ll wait till night
before I take a bite
of her I love most dearly

I Don't Know
03:59
|
|||
Don’t know where I’m heading, Don’t know what I’m for
Don’t know what I’m up against, or who I’m with anymore
Don’t know what the time is, don’t know who I am
Don’t know if I want to, or even if I can
Don’t know if I’m changing, don’t know if I’m not
Don’t know how or why or when & sure as hell I don’t know what
Don’t know who is right, don’t know who is wrong
But I’m pretty sure it’s been this way all all all all along
well what do you know?
what do you know
it’s nearly time to go
so tell me what you know
Don’t know if I’m dreaming Or lying here awake
I know I’m on a journey but I don’t know what to take
I don’t know if I’m ready to face the rising tide
There’s an ocean to cross But I don’t know how wide
I don’t know if I’m yelling, or only whispering
Don’t know if I was born to be a beggar or a king
Don’t know if I’m fighting on the side I should be on,
& I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready to be gone gone gone
I haven’t got a clue what’s being gained or being lost
But I’m pretty sure whichever way it isn’t worth the cost
Does anybody know how we can turn this ship around
Or are we gonna keep on steaming on till we run this thing aground
Don’t know if anybody hears a single word I say
I don’t know if I care I’m gonna say it anyway
Don’t know how to make myself be heard above the din
Don’t know if not knowing is a virtue or a sin
I don’t know what they’re selling that I could want to buy
I don’t know what to believe when everything’s a lie
I don’t know what to think, I don’t know what to do
I don’t know if I’ll ever know if what I know to be true is true
Don’t know who’s in charge, don’t know who’s the boss
I only know the things we find are someone else loss
Does anybody know how we can turn this ship around
Or are we gonna keep on steaming on till we run this thing aground

Dear Liza
03:45
|
|||
There’s a hole in my bucket dear liza
Through which all I put in drains away
To have no bucket dear would be wiser
And we’d still end with nothing each day
And the trip to the well’s always fruitless
for it’s ten long miles under the sun
and you say I should fix it dear liza
But with shat should I fix it dear one?
We’ve no coal for the fire up the forge with
for the winter was dark long and cold
We’ve no metal to patch up the hole with
All of value we had has been sold
—————
Then mend it with straw my dear Henry
We must make do and mend as we can
If the straw is too long you must cut it
with the knife that you hold in your hand
————
But my knife has no edge dear Liza
And I can’t stop the hole with mere straw
————-
Then sharpen your knife dear henry
For we must keep the wolf from the door
——-
And how shall I sharpen my knife dear?
———
With the whetstone as well you should know
—————-
But the stone must be whetted with water
—————
Then to fetch it my dear you must go
——————
There’s a hole in my bucket dear liza
Through which all I put in drains away
To have no bucket dear would be wiser
And we’d still end with nothing each day

Provolone
03:47
|
|||
It was midnight
On a bridge beside
A fountain in a park
In northern Italy
I was playing music
She sat down to listen
Then we started talking
And she said to me
Tell me where you come from
Tell me where you’re going
Maybe I can join you
As you travel round
I said I was leaving
First thing in the morning
Meet me where the campers s
Stay when they’re in town
Sure enough the next day
i was bright and early
i’d said all her goodbyes
So we drove away
Stopped to get some diesel
Have a little breakfast
Drove a little further
Found a place to stay
I told her that I liked her
Thought that she was funny
Thought that she was pretty
And thought that she was sweet
She said that I was only
Just a provolone
Who’d try my luck with every
Single girl I meet
i said ihe wasn’t interested
But I protested
Said I’d like to prove
That I was not so bad
i said i’d like to learn
To play the mandolin
And that if I could teach her
She’d concentrate on that
I told her that I liked her
Thought that she was funny
Thought that she was pretty
And maybe we’d be good
She said that I was only
Just a provolone
I asked if I could kiss her
And she said I could
She said that I was only
Just a provolone
I asked if I could kiss her
And she said I could

I Need Money
03:14
|
|||
I need money to buy a ticket, a ticket to I don't know where,
I need money to buy a ticket, if I'm going then I'll pay my share
I need money to buy a ticket, a penny for to pay my share
I need a ticket to take the train the train to take me far away
I need a ticket to take a trainI ani't staying here for one more day,
I need a ticket to take the train, I need the money so that I can pay
We're gonna live, we're gonna die, we're gonna ask a lot of questions so we know the reason why
We're gonna give, we're gonna take
we're gonna lose more money than we're ever gonna make
I need a pen to write a letter, a letter to my family,
I need a pen to write a letter, a letter so that they can see
I need a pen to write a letter, I'm going where I can be free

Deeper
03:59
|
|||
I got some pieces of this, I got some pieces of that,
I got a penny in my pocket and a feather in my hat
there are people I remember, there are people I forget,
but nothing makes me wanna go home just yet.
I found a pile of broken bones beneath the turf the other day
it made me wonder what was underneath the concrete and the clay
I got a dark recurring dream that doesn’t wanna go away
but i still rise above the wickedness before dawn every day
chorus:
And we can still go deeper,
looks like this one is gonna be a keeper
don’t matter which way you turn or which way you choose
someday you’re gonna have to get to know the grim reaper….
I got the skull of a bear, and the teeth of a whale
I got the hair of a dog from a shaggy dog tale
I’ve been a farmer in the fields I’ve been a sailor on the sea
there ain’t no government ever gave a shit about me
well it makes my ankles buckle and it makes my knees go weak
it makes me look just like a clown or some sideshow freak
there’s a million ways to say it when there’s nothing to be said
it’s gonna frighten you to death and make your eyes pop out your head
chorus
And we can still go deeper,
looks like this one is gonna be a keeper
don’t matter which way you turn or which way you choose
someday you’re gonna have to get to know the grim reaper….
Bridge
And there are letters in the water, and poison in the mail
everything you ever try is already destined to fail
You can set me on the water put the wind into my sail
but to break me out of jail somebody’s gotta pay my bail
they’re selling short at all the bookies, but I’ll tell you a tall tale
all your hopes and aspirations gonna be to no avail
final chorus
And we can still go deeper,
looks like this one is gonna be a keeper
don’t matter which way you turn or which way you choose
someday you’re gonna have to get to know the grim reaper…

Fine Desolation
02:47
|
|||
When did it start all going wrong?
From the moment they went down below
There’s a nightmare around every corner these days
and it’s never too soon to let go
It won’t get any better, once it all starts to rust
it’ll all go back to the sea
who’ll be here to forgive us when everything’s lost
except the devil, his henchmen and me
There are dark clouds upon every hilltop
if you stop to take in the view
it’s a fine desolation wherever you look
so soft, so cruel, so untrue
theres an old corner store in a long buried town
the owners once lived upstairs
They sold dark storm clouds to politicians and thieves
and other miscellaneous wares
no-one really knows what makes Jezebel weep
is it something in the water she drinks
the pipes and drums play all night while she sleeps
but the wolves only howl when she thinks
There are dark clouds upon every hilltop
if you stop to take in the view
it’s a fine desolation wherever you look
so soft, so cruel, so untrue
all the junk we abandon will sink back to earth
the world will be green once again
but there won’t be soul left who knows what it’s worth
who can haul in the anchor and chain
all that nature around is encroaching again
So soft ... so cruel so serene!
Peace and silence, morning and evening
birds that wake you up with a scream
There are dark clouds upon every hilltop
if you stop to take in the view
it’s a fine desolation wherever you look
so soft, so cruel, so untrue
